Nicola Trezzi

The Magma of Reality

Nicola Trezzi (b. 1982, Italy) is an educator, exhibition maker, and writer based in Jaffa. From 2014 to 2017 he was the head of the MFA program at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design Jerusalem and prior to this position he was U.S. Editor at Flash Art International. In February 2018, Trezzi will assume the post of director and chief curator of the CCA Tel Aviv.

As a staff member of the Prague Biennale Foundation from 2007 to 2014, Trezzi co-organized the following exhibitions: Painting Overall, Prague Biennale 5, 2011; Four Rooms, CCA Warsaw, 2011; Modern Talking, Muzeul National de Arta Cluj-Napoca, 2012; Circa 1986, HVCCA, Peekskill, 2011; Champs-Élysées, Palais de Tokyo, Paris, 2013; and Diagonal Histories—Imre Bak, Peter Halley—, Art+Text Budapest, 2015. In addition to Flash Art International, Trezzi’s writing has appeared in Flash Art Italia, Flash Art CZ&SK, artnet News, artpress, Il Sole 24 Ore, Monopol,and White Fungus. He has contributed essays to catalogues such as Joshua Neustein: Drawing in the Margins, Israel Museum, 2012; Postmonument, The 14th Sculpture Biennial, Carrara, 2010; Michal Helfman: Change, CCA Tel Aviv, 2012; Michael Kienzer: Logic and Self-Will, Kunsthaus Graz, 2012; Ylva Ogland: She, an Introduction, Bonniers Konsthall, Stockholm, 2015; Ido Bar-El: Bagatelle, Paintings, 1986–2015, Tel Aviv Museum of Art, 2015; and Ashley Bickerton: Ornamental Hysteria, Newport Street Gallery, London, 2017. Trezzi has lectured at the Yale University School of Art, New Haven; SAIC, Chicago; iCI, New York; and at the Indonesian Institute of the Art, Yogyakarta. He is currently a lecturer at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem.
