Aude Launay (b. 1983, France) is an independent curator and art critic. She is also the associate chief editor of 02, a French contemporary art review. She holds a MA in Philosophy from the University of Nantes.
Between 2005 and 2016, she has been associate curator at Zoo galerie, a non-profit art space dedicated to emerging artists in Nantes. She is one of the founding members of the Belleville Biennale in Paris and she’s been a curator there from 2010 to 2014. From 2012 to 2014, she’s also been a lecturer in art theory at ESADSE (Ecole Supérieure d’Art et Design de St Etienne). As a curator, she partly focuses on abstract painting issues and has curated various shows in that context between 2009 and 2014, notably as part of the Biennale de Belleville in Paris; and at the Fondation d’entreprise Ricard in Paris, but also on ethical and philosophical concerns such as humanity and its environment, be it architectural or technological. She recently curated Welcome to Ecuador, an exhibition around the figure of Julian Assange.
As an art critic, apart from her researches in contemporary abstract painting, a significant part of her writings deals with the influence of the Internet (as a concept and as an hyperobject more than as a technical tool) and advanced digital technologies on contemporary art. Her most recent focus is on the idea of algorithmic curating and on the interaction between human and artificial language in AI based processes. Her writings have been published in various art reviews and catalogues since 2011.
